Fantastic story! I’m enjoying watching your work on instagram. I tinker in guitar building and your work is inspiring! .. I still don’t have the guts to build my own neck though. Looking forward to more of yer axe musings!

Thanks! Yeah the neck is the most intimidating of all the processes, I think. But I think you should go for it. I trashed two necks before I made one that was any good. Use cheap, domestic wood and just give ‘er! Burn whatever you wreck in the process!

Accepting to trash a few might be a good way to start. Gathering patience for my next project. Might be an Ibanez style short scale bass!

Be well Beave!

While the guitar industry churns out some amazing and high quality instruments (and a lot of volume of questionable quality and manufacturing origin), there is something that has always drawn me to find uniqie pieces much more interesting. Perhaps it is the fact that a locally made custom guitar that has been designed for you just fits and feels better, or maybe it is the allure of playing something different than a mass produced guitar.

Perhaps it is the story that comes with a custom guitar that resonates as well. A story bound by friendships, shared ideals, and a sense of genuine effort and gratitude that goes into making a one-of-a-kind instrument for one-of-a-kind people. That these guitars are not just a tool to coax creativity out of us, but an object encapsulating so much more human nuance and sentiment.

Having shared the experience, twice, with a friend and luthier, the experience of bringing a guitar to fruition is a lot like writing a song with friends. There is so much opportunity for learning and so much excitement throughout the process, with the outcome being so much more than the sum of it's parts.

Thanks for sharing these stories.

Thanks for sharing this. I am glad you guys found each other. There are some good folks in the world, but I would rate you guys way above the norm for good folks. The level of talent in the band is (and always has been) ridiculously high and I always loved seeing you guys live while you were in the band.
